How does VPLEX work?
VPLEX uses an in-band architecture which means that data flowing between a host and a storage controller flows through one or more directors. On the front end, VPLEX presents an interface to a host which looks like a standard storage controller SCSI target.
What is VPLEX witness?
Remind me: what is VPLEX Witness? EMC VPLEX Metro uses a cluster guidance mechanism known as VPLEX Witness to provide continuous availability in the event of an entire site failure. Using VPLEX Witness ensures that Continuous Availability can be delivered by VPLEX Metro.
What Vplex local?
Vplex local is a single VPLEX cluster within one data center. It provides a high availability active-active storage configuration and lets you move and share data nondisruptively, within a data center. Vplex metro is two VPLEX clusters between two data centers.
What is logging volume in Vplex?
The calculation for determining logging volume size is: 10 GB protects 320TB/N [n is the number of clusters]. Consequently, you need approximately 10 GB of logging volume space for every 160 TB of distributed devices in a VPLEX Metro.
What is Dell EMC Connectrix?
Features. Bring high bandwidth to your storage network with Connectrix switches. Connectrix B-Series and Connectrix MDS Series offer you a range of enterprise, departmental, edge switches and top-of-rack switches for small to large enterprise environments. All the switch models below support NVMe/FC.
What is extent in VPLEX?
Extents: Extents are created on storage volumes. You have the option of creating multiple extents on a single storage volume, but EMC generally recommends creating one extent per storage volume. (Future posts will discuss why this is beneficial.) Devices: Devices are created from extents.
How do you navigate in VPLEX CLI?
First, the CLI is a lot like navigating a directory tree, except that you’re navigating through contexts instead of directories. In the VPLEX CLI, you move between contexts using the cd command and list the contents of a context using the ls and ll commands.
Is the VPLEX CLI similar to Cisco UCS?
In some respects, it’s similar to the scope-based CLI that Cisco uses with Unified Computing System (UCS). In this post, I’d like to explore the VPLEX CLI a bit and provide a brief introduction to the VPLEX CLI.
How do I run a command in VPLEX?
In the VPLEX CLI, you move between contexts using the cd command and list the contents of a context using the ls and ll commands. Just as with a typical filesystem, if you’re in the right context, you can just run a command (say, like the unclaim command).
How do I view the contents of A VPLEX cluster?
These reside in different places in the VPLEX contextual tree: Storage volumes: /clusters/ /storage-elements/storage-volumes Within each of these contexts, you can use the ls and ll commands to view the contents of that context.
