Founder Jere Gettle started Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Co. in 1998 as a hobby, and though it has since grown into North America’s largest heirloom seed company, we’ve never lost our passion for growing and sharing heirloom varieties.
Is Baker Creek seeds owned by Monsanto?
We do not buy any seed from Monsanto-owned Seminis, and we boycott all gene-altering companies. We are not members of the pro-GMO American Seed Trade Organization.

Jere Gettle
Jere Gettle, owner of Baker Creek, comes from a long line of farmers and gardeners. Gettle said his company first really started in his bedroom when he was 17.
Who is Jere gettle?
Jeremiath Gettle, known to most as Jere, collected many things as a child — stamps, coins and, after flipping through a seed catalog at age five, seeds. Jere spent most of his youth in Montana where his father’s love for gardening wore off on him.

Do seeds expire?
Most vegetable seeds will last through their expiration date if kept cool, dry and away from sunlight. Baker Seed guarantees seeds for at least two years after purchase. Most seeds last three to five years after purchase, but those dates can vary depending on the variety.
Are Heirloom Seeds better?
First, heirlooms are generally known to produce better taste and flavor. Heirloom fruits and vegetables are also known to be more nutritious. Last but not least, they are less expensive over the long haul. Heirloom plants may require a bit more care than their counterparts but the effort you put in will be worth it!
Does Baker Creek grow their own seeds?
Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company has a pool of about 250 independent growers who produce seeds for them. Many of them are small farmers and backyard growers.
